Learn about 10,000 Women, the Goldman Sachs initiative to train women entrepreneurs
10,000 Women seeks to promote economic development at a global level, providing women entrepreneurs with business management education, mentoring opportunities, access to contact networks and capital. To date, over 10,000 women in 45 countries have been trained.
The initiative is built on the premise that partnerships with education, development, and business experts can help bring about significant economic growth in communities across the world. It operates through a network of 90 academic partners and non-profit consultants, which includes prestigious universities, business schools and international organizations.
The project builds on the idea that investing in women’s education has a multiplier effect on productivity and sustainable economic growth. In fact, a recent report from Babson College found that training women entrepreneurs positively affects emerging economies by increasing revenues and creating jobs, expanding women’s contributions to their communities.
Through mentoring, specialized advising, and hours of basic business skills training, program graduates gained confidence, grew their businesses in sales and employees, and are contributing to their communities by mentoring other women.
In fact, 69% of participants increased their revenues 18 months after graduating, 58% created new job opportunities in the same period and 90% contributed by mentoring other women.
